A lot of people are watching the Oscars right now. It's an event filled with famous people saying thank you to better their careers.
But, in my case, it's more like trying to pay a bill I can't afford.
I just want to say thank you to all my friends and family who have called, emailed, and hugged me these last few days. I love you guys!
I lost a good friend this week. I used to work on the help desk with my friend and coworker Fred Smithson. He was a ham radio genius, a weather storm expert, a wonderful conversationalist, and could program a Timex Sinclair to the lowest kilobit. We used to get in trouble by chatting long after our shifts were done. Our spouses would leave voicemails of concern. He had a warm heart and a huge smile that made him famous with sales reps (quite a feat if you are in Information Technology) and our customers.
I miss him a lot. His passing me hit me pretty hard because I've been meaning to call him for lunch for the longest time. Too late. Time hates overdue payments.
So, if you get a call from me for no reason, it's just me trying to learn a lesson I should have learned years ago.
A live photo from this evening. Bren found a very dishevled thiner black cat. After a quick bath, we immediately made Nightmare feel right at home.
Thanks for your comments. Sorry for the worries, but this is a small miracle. Nightmare has never left the house and...well..there are NO small animals around our house except for a declining amount of rabbits.
In short, there are no outdoor cats here. Fortunately for us, there is one less out there.
(Read the next entry where Nightmare returns. See...it's like a comic book.)
Sorry for the sad news. The picture is about 3 or so years old. But a protective black cat protects a baby named Jade. Fast forward three years later, Jade would cry over a toddler injustice, Nightmare would run over to check on her.
Sadly, yesterday morning Nightmare got out of the house. She was very good at sneaking out. But we always brought her back in and scolded her for leaving through the door. Yesterday, she ran out before we left for work. We did not know she was gone. She did not come back. With our house right next to a well used train track along with packs of coyotes, the hawks, etc, we fear (and believe) the worst. No small outdoor pets survive here. Nightmare has not returned for almost 2 days. She's an indoor cat and has never left the house...ever.
The worse part was telling Jade. She broke down and cried, "I want Nightmare back!" All of us here are very sad. Nightmare always slept next to me in the bed and kept rubbing her head against my laptop to get my attention. The worst part is we never did get to say goodbye.
Again, despite her aggressive nature, she was a good cat. And she put up with a lot of Jade's clumsy petting. We will miss her.
